Kent Music Report beyond the top 100: 18 July 1983

Ooops... I missed the deadline for making this post in keeping with its 32nd year anniversary by 16 minutes.  Oh well.  This week in 1983 sees just one new entry bubbling outside the top 100.  Let's take a look at it.

Avion didn't quite reach 'diamond' sales with this release.

Beyond the top 100:

Position 8 "Diamond Eyes" by Avion
Highest rank: 8th
Peak date: 18 July 1983
Weeks on below chart: 1 week

Australian band Avion formed in Sydney in 1981.  They landed one top 100 single in Australia during their tenure, "I Need You" (number 61, April 1983), lifted from their debut album Avion (number 48 for two weeks in October 1983), which was also their only charting album.  "Diamond Eyes" was the second single issued from Avion, but failed to dent the top 100.

Avion continued to release singles up until 1987, when they also released their second and final album White Noise.  The band split in 1987 after their second album failed to chart and keyboardist Evan Murray died in a car accident.

Next post (8 August): Three new entries bubbling under the top 100.
